The movie icon behind sci-fi films Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Minority Report will start shooting Robocopalypse in January 2012.
The film is based on Daniel H Wilson's novel of the same name, about a robot uprising, reports Daily Variety.
Mark Sourian, co-president of Spielberg's studio Dreamworks, explains, "Robocopalypse embodies an imaginative story of a robot rebellion unleashed against the human race. This is a project we immediately sparked to and with Steven directing it, we knew it was in the best possible hands to bring it to worldwide
