Dench honoured at South Bank awards
The Oscar winner, who began acting professionally in 1957, accepted the Outstanding Achievement honour from Sir Peter Hall at the annual ceremony, which recognises the best in British arts. Independent movie Monsters, directed by Gareth Edwards, was named Best Film, while small-screen series This Is England '86 claimed the Best TV Drama prize. Rapper/singer Plan B was also a winner at the London ceremony - he claimed the top pop prize for his album The Defamation of Strickland Banks.
