In addition to universal search and an overall streamlined UI, one of the most important improvements here is the addition of RIM's WebKit-based browser that makes hitting your favorite pages moderately less painful than before. Alec Baldwin Could Replace Olbermann at MSNBC

This just in from the land of "Yes, please," Alec Baldwin may be the guy to replace ousted MSNBC commentator, Keith Olbermann. Because the network has just let go of the man who brought in their greatest number of viewers, they need someone else with some serious pull to make up for it; enter Baldwin. Popeater has just learned that Baldwin, as an existing member of the "NBC family," is high up on the list of Olbermann replacements and may even occupy the top spot.We already know that the most eligible Baldwin has a special place in his heart for politics (remember earlier this month when he said he would consider running for office?) but who knew this would all come this close to actually happening? Okay, so hosting Countdown isn't

Sundance 2011: IFC Purchases Festival Standout ‘The Ledge’

IFC has been on a roll recently, picking up several buzz-worthy films from Sundance that might not have gotten distribution otherwise. The latest acquisition is The Ledge, a character driven drama about a guy threatening to jump off the top of a building. Well, it's slightly more complicated than that: The guy jumping is an atheist involved in a love triangle with a woman and the other guy is a big believer who actually talked him up to the roof in the first place. Then throw in a detective assigned to talk him down and you have your twisted thriller. The company paid just over $1 million for the picture and you can expect to see it in limited release and on select VOD services this Spring. The official (and by official, we mean the

Android source code, Java, and copyright infringement: what’s going on?

So it's been a fun day of armchair code forensics and legal analysis on the web after Florian Mueller published a piece this morning alleging Google directly copied somewhere between 37 and 44 Java source files in Android. That's of course a major accusation, seeing as Oracle is currently suing Google for patent and copyright infringement related to Java, and it prompted some extremely harsh technical rebuttals, like this one from ZDNet and this one from Ars Technica . The objections in short: the files in question are test files, aren't important, probably don't ship with Android, and everyone is making a hullabaloo over

'Jersey Shore' Recap: Free Snooki

It reminded me of Nancy Reagan for some reason. When she got back (still wearing the dress she went out in two nights ago and looking so much like a Whitney Houston mess that I’m sure US Magazine is compiling a photo gallery as we speak), Snooki called her dad and started to explain how awesome jail was. But then caught herself because it really wasn’t that awesome and it was, in fact, totally awful. This week's episode was solid (and to be honest I can't think of a time when an episode of Community wasn't), but my favorite aspect wasn't the plot or even the one-liners, which are always on-point, it's the element of incredible attention to detail. So many other sitcoms put in pieces here and there to add color or to get a quick laugh, but they rarely come back to those details and use them for plot or extended gags that arch over many episodes. When you watch Community, pay attention, because those little jokes at the end of a tag could come back as something important later. This episode is one of those

As soon as I heard he'd be reuniting with JGL on Looper, his biggest film to date, I was ecstatic. 'The Big Bang Theory' Recap: The Love Car Displacement

S4E13: The Big Bang Theory has never been one for innovative story lines. Instead, it gives us interesting characters in standard situations, and lets them do funny and clever things. This is fine, and this is how most multi-camera sitcoms work, and usually it's funny. But for TBBT, the writers have either hit a wall or gotten lazy this season, because now, traits that made the show's characters interesting are either being overused or they're gone, and it's pretty hard to find an ounce of originality in any week's episodes. Despite "The Love Car Displacement" having a few enjoyable moments, the episode continued that unfortunate trend of sucking ass."Just to be clear, when you guys say 'spa,' does that mean the same thing as when

Whoops, ‘Skins’ May Violate Child Porn Laws

You know, there are some cool laws to break. Not that I’m advocating breaking any, but when someone tells you they went to jail for stealing their boss’ car and then setting it on fire in the middle of the highway, that’s pretty bad-ass. Producing child pornography is not one of those cool laws to break. Such is the dilemma facing MTV’s racy new imported show Skins. In the series' third episode, a male character’s butt is shown as he runs down the street. It just so happens that the actor, Jesse Carere, is 17, despite the fact that he and the other actors in the show (ranging in ages from 15 to 19) and their characters engage in sex and drug use. Of course, because Depp has become lord of crazy caricatures in the last decade and because he was the only good part of Alice In Wonderland outside of the fantastical visuals and because he singlehandedly took the Pirates of The Caribbean movies from seaworthy fun to an iconic, albeit sometimes rocky, set of movies, Disney is seeking his

It was all out attack for the Amakhosi from the first whistle and seeing that they controlled almost 80 percent of the possession it was inevitable that they would score in the first half.

Disgraced Landis calls it quits

Disgraced former Tour de France winner Floyd Landis has announced he is retiring from cycling with immediate effect, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old American has been unable to find a team since being stripped of the 2006 Tour de France crown after a positive test for testosterone. Despite denying doping for four years he finally confessed last year.

In making his confession, he alleged that former US Postal team-mate Lance Armstrong was involved in systematic doping during his spectacular Tour de France career.

Those claims have since prompted a federal investigation into the superstar American.

Crowded golf calendar is a 'mess' for Els

For all the miles he has flown and all the trophies he has won on the six major tours around the globe, Ernie Els would seem to be the biggest supporter of a move toward a world golf tour.

Far from it.

"I hope not, because it won't work," he said. "The egos won't let it work."

Els wasn't referring to players demanding appearance money or expecting to be otherwise pampered. His angst is aimed at administrators who seem to be tripping over themselves to stake out territories, not to mention weeks on the calendar.

As he walked out of the Kapalua clubhouse at the start of the season and looked ahead to the end of the year, Els

Proposed child labor regulations threaten Broadway shows

The new rules would ban children under 18 from working past 10pm - before most Broadway shows close - and slash the number of hours they work. Actors between the ages of nine and 16 would be limited to no more than five hours of actual work and producers will have to provide on-the-job tutors when they're working for three or more days. Critics fear the tightened regulations would make it almost impossible for underage stars to work on Broadway. Director of labour relations for the Broadway League, Keith Halpern, tells the New York Daily News, "They are just that restrictive." Maria Somma, spokeswoman for the Actors Equity Association, the union for stage managers and actors, adds: "It doesn't work within our environment." The

CBS "Concerned" About Charlie Sheen "On A Personal Level"

Life is unfair. I know that. It’s been beaten into my head since that one day in Kindergarten when Carmen San Diego wasn’t in Rome, despite every clue leading me to believe she was (screw you, Venice). But this just goes so far beyond all levels of unfairness that it requires an entire news post about it and once again, like everything unfair about life, it involves Charlie Sheen. Sheen’s had quite a few rough nights in the past six months. A hooker accused him of beating her during a coke-fueled rage. Sequentially, he was barely patted on the wrist for that while still bringing in $2 million per episode for Two and a Half Men. Just last week he was spotted hanging out at the annual adult entertainment awards show where he later

Spurs plan to build new venue

Tottenham unveiled plans Wednesday to tear down the London Olympic Stadium and build a new 60,000-capacity venue in their place without a running track, arguing that is the only viable option for the site after the 2012 Games.
- Great cash prizes in the score-prediction game
The Premier League club's chief architect claims that a rival bid from West Ham is flawed because football fans would not have a good enough view of the field if it retains the track.

Tottenham had remained silent about the details of its bid before Wednesday and is only countering West Ham's much-publicized plans just as the Olympic Park Legacy Company

Schwartzel relying on mental toughness

Defending champion Charl Schwartzel says mental toughness will keep him from falling out of contention as he brings a scratchy game to the Joburg Open starting at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club on Thursday.

Despite an excellent run that has seen him finish second, fourth and fourth in his last three tournaments, Schwartzel said on Wednesday that he is still struggling his way out of swing troubles.

"My swing is not quite 100%, I've been struggling since the SA Open. There're glimpses of a good swing, but I don't have the confidence in my swing to hit shots like I did last year, often I'm not attempting to go for

Fisher losing weight with Jenny Craig

The veteran star, 54, admits she has gradually piled on the pounds since her days as a Hollywood pin-up following her turn as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, but her weight really ballooned in 2008 when she hit the road to perform her one-woman stage show, Wishful Drinking.

Fisher's lack of exercise and unbalanced diet caused her waistline to spiral out of control and at her heaviest, she tipped the scales at 180 pounds (81.6 kilograms).

She says, "I would just graze, but I didn't do it healthy - it was like putting on the feed bag."

She gained even more weight following the death of her father in September (10), when she indulged in calorie-packed ice cream bars: "That was bad. I was in denial."

Broadway shows go on despite snow storm

City officials began clearing roads across Manhattan and the outer boroughs on Tuesday (11Jan11) as nine inches (22.9 centimetres) of snow descended upon the city overnight - just over two weeks after blizzard conditions ground the city to a halt ahead of the New Year.

But a spokesperson from Broadway League insists productions will go on as scheduled on Wednesday night (12Jan11).

And show bosses are using the wintry blast to lure theatregoers out with big last-minute discounts.

The Importance of Being Earnest, La Cage aux Folles, Mamma Mia!, The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore and Memphis are just some of the shows that have offered one-day deals for typically hard-to-get orchestra and mezzanine

Britney Spears got grimy on her newest single, "Hold It Against Me," a Dr. Luke/ Max Martin-produced thrashing club tune about lusting on the dance floor. It serves as the lead single from Brit's March album, and it follows in the tradition of other Brit lead singles like " ... Baby One More Time," "Oops! ... I Did It Again" and "Womanizer," which had Britney-philes (and even some Britney haters) on the dance floor.

But how does the track stack up against previous Britney singles? MTV News caught

AP source: Graham emerging as Pitt's top choice - Atlanta Journal Constitution

By ALAN ROBINSON

The Associated Press

PITTSBURGH — A person with knowledge of the search tells The Associated Press that Tulsa coach Todd Graham is emerging as the top candidate to become Pitt's third football coach in a month.

The person spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because Pittsburgh has made no announcement about the search.
Graham is the only coach known to have had two interviews with Pitt officials, and he has met with Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg — a requirement for any finalist. Nordenberg became involved in the search after athletic director Steve Pederson's hand-picked choice, Mike Haywood, was fired Jan. 1 following his arrest on a domestic violence charge. Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy Top BAFTA's Rising Star Noms

The list of the five nominees for BAFTA’s 2011 Rising Star award is out, and it looks like the competition is pretty tight. But the other nominees are top notch as well, Inception’s Tom Hardy, Kick-Ass’s Aaron Johnson, and Prince of Persia’s Gemma Arterton all made the list as well. It truly is a jam-packed list; all of these stars have had great years in big-time films and they’ve all got potential for superstardom oozing from their pores, but we’ll
